A Magical Experience
Camp volunteers come together each year to create a magical space where children diagnosed with cancer can enjoy the opportunity to just be a kid again. Siblings can stand in the spotlight and find a community of support. Families can leave the realities of life behind for a moment, and reconnect and recharge together.
Our volunteers make this possible. We promise that all the time, passion, imagination and heart you put into your camp role will be returned to you countless times over.
Med Shack Volunteers
Licensed registered nurses are responsible for the medical care of campers and volunteers so counselors are never required to assist medically beyond their scope.
The Med Shack team is responsible for dispensing all medication during camp and rendering all first aid.
The Med Shack team also includes a Licensed Social Worker during each camp session.
Med Shack volunteers are invited to participate in many camp activities and help provide the magic camp experience our campers have grown to love.
Volunteer Requirements
Applications for Med Shack Volunteers open in early spring alongside camper registration. If you are interested in being notified when volunteer applications are open, please fill out the volunteer interest form and our program team will ensure you are included in our outreach.
Med Shack volunteers must meet the following requirements.
Please review these prior to submitting your application
- Must be 20 or older
- Must pass a criminal background check and interview process
- Must attend required in-person training
- Must be able to attend the entire duration of camp, typically arriving on a Saturday and staying through following Friday
- Will not have cell phone or email access or availability during camp
- Must love children and be willing to have fun, try new things, let loose and be silly
- Can provide own transportation to and from camp or are comfortable coordinating transportation with other camp volunteers
- Can remain flexible about on-site responsibilities — camp management works to place volunteers in desired roles, but sometimes other placement or additional tasks are required

All Camp Rainbow Gold volunteers become part of our close-knit family.
We often need help throughout the year that arises without notice or extends beyond the scope of these camp roles.

How can I help?

What are the requirements to volunteer?
Camp Rainbow Gold employs volunteers in a wide range of capacities. Those who assist with year-round programming and services must be at least 13 years of age. Volunteers who wish to help at camp must be at least 21 years of age, successfully pass a driving record and criminal background check, and participate in training sessions. How are volunteers selected for camp?
After an interested individual submits an application, we screen the application and the prospective volunteer is offered an interview. The interview is conducted by Camp Rainbow Gold staff and camp leadership. We check the applicant’s driving record and perform a criminal background check. We look for a diversity of characteristics when selecting volunteers to accommodate the many needs at camp.
