By Colin Steppe, CRG volunteer, former camper, and scholarship recipient —
My name is Colin Steppe and I am one of the recipients of the 2022 CRG scholarship award. I am a former teen camper and have been a volunteer since 2017. I am a 23 year old senior at Boise State University and am majoring in History. After I finish my final year at Boise State and receive my diploma, I plan on completing training to become a high school teacher.
Camp Rainbow Gold has meant a lot to me and my family. My 15 year old sister has been attending Sibling Camp for three years. Other than CRG being a second family to us, CRG has blessed me with the opportunity to go on and further my education and teach the next generation of people.
Finding Purpose
Being a teacher is what I feel is my purpose and the financial aid provided by this scholarship will grant me the ability to achieve my goal. The younger generations need to be taught and being a volunteer counselor for CRG has helped me to discover that I love caring for and teaching high school age kids. During my most recent time spent volunteering for CRG, I was a Teen Camp volunteer and before that I was a counselor at Sibling Camp in the teen boys cabin.
Camp Rainbow Gold is so much more than just a summer camp. They affect the lives of the campers, staff, and volunteers so much more than having a camp for kids during the summer. This scholarship is a good example of CRG going above and beyond.
