How much does it cost to participate?
All camps and year-round programming are provided entirely free of charge for every camper and family.
When and where are the camps?
Oncology and sibling camps are in June. Family camps are held twice a year. All overnight camps are held at Hidden Paradise in Fairfield, Idaho. There are also a few half-day camps throughout the year in various locations.
How can I apply for my child or family to attend camp?
Camp applications open in January for the upcoming summer programs. Once they open, review camp dates and details and submit an application online.
What medical support is provided at camp?
The support from St. Luke’s Cancer Institute pediatrics is phenomenal and makes Camp Rainbow Gold possible. Many of the same doctors and nurses who treat children at the hospital also volunteer their time each summer. Oncology camps are staffed with oncology nurses and a pediatric oncology physician at all times. Both sibling and family camps are staffed with registered nurses, and sibling camp has an on-call physician at all times.
How do campers get to camp?
Campers can get to camp a few different ways. They can ride the bus that leaves from our Boise office, be dropped off directly at camp by a parent or guardian, or arrive by Angel Flight to our local airport, where our team will transport them safely to camp.
How can I contact my child while they are at camp?
To help campers stay engaged and enjoy everything camp has to offer, phone calls aren’t typically part of the week. However, families are encouraged to send letters, care packages, or email our Program Director, and we’ll make sure your camper receives them.
Can I meet the staff prior to camp?
Yes! If campers and parents would like to meet our camp staff they can email info@camprainbowgold.org to schedule a meeting with our Program Director.
Can I talk to the medical team before camp?
Yes! In fact, if your child is going to oncology camp, our nurses call all parents and guardians the week before camp to go over any new medications, treatments, or health-related concerns. This call is a great opportunity to ask questions, share updates, and ensure our medical team has everything they need to care for your child during camp. If your child is going to sibling camp, we can also arrange for a call from a nurse.
