Camp Rainbow Gold is a place where volunteers can make a meaningful impact while building purpose, confidence, compassion, and community. For many, the experience becomes more than a day or a week of service — it becomes a long-term commitment. How do I become a volunteer?
We’re thrilled you are interested! First, let us know you are interested in becoming a volunteer by filling out the interest form. We will then contact you to answer your questions, let you know what kind of opportunities there are, and ask you a few questions. If you are volunteering at camp, then we will also do a background check and in-person and online trainings.
What are the requirements to volunteer?
Volunteer requirements depend on where and how you will be volunteering. For all volunteer opportunities, there is no age cap—we have volunteers from ages 13 to 90! Here are more details about specific volunteer opportunities:
Want to help at events or in the office? You must be at least 13 years old.
Want to volunteer at camp? For Family Camp, you must be at least 18 years old. And for youth, teen, and sibling camp, you must be at least 20 years old. All Camp volunteers also must pass a driving record, pass a criminal background check, and participate in training sessions.
Want to join the Finance Committee? If you have a background in finance, let us know.
Are there opportunities to meet other volunteers?
Yes! We host volunteer mixers a few times a year so that new volunteers can meet other volunteers, returning volunteers can reunite with friends, and everyone can build community.
How are volunteers selected for camp?
After you submit an application, we screen the application and you are offered an interview. The interview is conducted by Camp Rainbow Gold staff and camp leadership. We check the applicant’s driving record and perform a criminal background check. We look for a diversity of characteristics when selecting volunteers to accommodate the many needs at camp. If I am volunteering at camp, what else do I need to know?
As a volunteer, you will need to organize your own transportation to and from Hidden Paradise, our camp home in Fairfield, ID.
Once there, your lodging is taken care of. Cabin Counselors stay in the cabins with their campers and co-counselors, while Fall Family Camp volunteers stay in a cabin with other volunteers. Your bed includes a premium camp mattresses with an enhanced foam core for comfort and durability. Each cabin is equipped with two bathrooms that include automatic faucets and accessible showers. Cabins have built-in storage and plenty of space gives you room to spread out. All cabins are equipped with heaters; cabin counselors’ cabin have central A/C; and Fall Family Camp volunteers have access to one portable A/C unit for the cabin.
You also get three meals a day, as well as access to snacks, Keurig coffee, and soda. Every meal is made from scratch by our kitchen staff, using fresh ingredients. And, yes, we can accommodate your dietary restrictions!
You are not allowed to bring your pet with you, unless they are service dogs, as no animals are allowed at camp.
