To quote that oft-played song from High School Musical, “We are all in this together” and boy are we!
We know times are more than crazy right now, but we want to thank you for getting us where we are. Thirty-six years of Camp translates into countless SHINES, cabin raids and fits of giggles. Thank you, as always, for being there for us so we can be there for so many of Idaho’s children fighting cancer and their families.
LOOKING AHEAD
We are still moving forward in these new circumstances with our CRG scholarships, and adjusted activities and camps. We are shifting gears but still designing everything to uplift, empower and connect with our families in their homes where they are safe.
As you may know, we had to cancel our biggest fundraiser, the Share Your Heart Ball, 48 hours before the event—after all the flowers, food, entertainment and arrangements had been made—so we are getting creative and constantly looking for ways to keep our programs available and free to our cancer families.
We know this is a difficult time for all our supporters, if you’re able to donate, please consider supporting our 2020 programs. In a time of isolation and health concerns (that our families are all too familiar with) our campers need hope, love and fun more than ever and we want to provide the best services we can.
ABOUT THE CARES ACT
At the end of March, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to help our economy and to help nonprofits like Camp Rainbow Gold. Among other things, the CARES Act has some great charitable giving incentives that you should know about:
- You can now deduct up to $300 in charitable donations from your taxable income for donations made in 2020. This new deduction ($600 for a married couple) is set up on your tax forms for next year and one you won’t have to go through the process of itemizing.
- If you do itemize, you can now deduct 100% of your adjusted gross income (AGI) for 2020. This is up from 60% previously.
- Corporations can now deduct up to 25% of taxable income (compared to 10%).
- These new deductions are for gifts that go directly to a public charity, such as Camp Rainbow Gold, the higher deductions do not apply to donor-advised funds.
We realize Camp Rainbow Gold is not alone. Everyone is under stress and trying to figure out how to live life and move forward. We just want you to know, if you feel inclined to take advantage of these new incentives and give, we would be so appreciative.
Our cancer kids are experts on locking down, fighting germs and controlling fear. This pandemic has only made us more determined to bring hope, fun and love to those who need it most.
