A Magical Experience
Volunteering is, at its core, about giving back to your community and making a difference in the lives of others. But so often, our camp volunteers are surprised by the gifts of joy and fulfillment they receive when they spend a week at Camp Rainbow Gold.

Camp volunteers come together each year to create a magical space where children diagnosed with cancer can enjoy the opportunity to just be a kid again. Siblings can stand in the spotlight and find a community of support. Families can leave the realities of life behind for a moment, and reconnect and recharge together.
Our volunteers make this possible. We promise that all the time, passion, imagination and heart you put into your camp role will be returned to you countless times over.

Camp Volunteer Roles
Get a quick snapshot of some of the volunteer opportunities we have available through our camp programs. The descriptions below are just a sample and other responsibilities may be required and requested. Cabin Counselor
You’ll work with co-counselors to provide leadership and guidance to 6-10 campers over the course of a week. You’ll dive in and participate with the group as they learn to mountain bike, take on new crafts at the Art Shack, try their hands at archery, and participate in a variety of camp activities. Counselors are responsible for the safety of the campers and are the front line in ensuring a great camp experience for each child.
Activity Support
Volunteers create and lead specific activities for all campers such as fishing, bike riding, yoga instruction, or art lessons. Activity support may also include maintenance or helping to document the camp experience through photography and videography. Activity providers are not expected to attend the full camp session, only the day or days their activities are needed.
If you have a specific talent that could be shared with our campers, please make note of it in your application.
Med Shack Volunteers
Licensed registered nurses are responsible for the medical care of campers and volunteers so counselors are never required to assist medically beyond their scope. The Med Shack team is responsible for dispensing all medication during camp and rendering all first aid.
The Med Shack team also includes a Licensed Social Worker during each camp session.
Med Shack volunteers are invited to participate in many camp activities and help provide the magic camp experience our campers have grown to love.
Volunteer Requirements
Applications for Camp Counselors open in early spring alongside camper registration. If you are interested in being notified when volunteer applications are open, please fill out this form and our program team will ensure you are included in our outreach.
Camp Counselor volunteers must meet the following requirements. Please review these prior to submitting your application and contact us at info@camprainbowgold.org or 208-350-6435 if you have any questions or concerns.
Activity providers and activity support also must be 21 or older and pass a background check and interview process. You must be able to provide your own transportation and abide by necessary training and requests of camp management.
Activity providers are only required to be on site during scheduled activity dates. They are not required to attend the duration of the camp session or in-person training.
- Must be 21 or older
- Must pass a criminal background check and interview process
- Must attend required in-person training, typically held during a weekend in May
- Must be able to attend the entire duration of camp, typically arriving on a
- Saturday and staying through following Friday
- Will not have cell phone or email access or availability during camp
- Must love children and be willing to have fun, try new things, let loose and be silly
- Can provide own transportation to and from camp or are comfortable coordinating transportation with other camp volunteers
- Can remain flexible about on-site responsibilities — camp management works to place volunteers in desired roles, but sometimes other placement or additional tasks are required
Going Above and Beyond
All Camp Rainbow Gold volunteers become part of our close-knit family. We often need help throughout the year that arises without notice or extends beyond the scope of these camp roles.
